Torie Osborn, candidate for the newly redrawn and re-numbered 50th Assembly District, has been endorsed by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Osborn is running for the State Assembly seat to be vacated by Julia Brownley, who also has endorsed Osborn, as has former State Senator Sheila Kuehl. Read more…

Osborn is vying against Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom and others in the race for California’s new 50th Assembly District.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa commented on his endorsement of Torie Osborn in the race for California’s new 50th State Assembly District in a press release issued Tuesday morning.

“As a local leader who has worked on some of the most pressing issues of our time, from protecting our environment, to creating jobs, expanding access to better health care, helping the homeless, and fighting for equality, Torie Osborn has proven herself to be a champion for those who need a voice,” Villaraigosa said in a statement issued by the Osborn campaign. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa endorsed a former senior adviser today in her bid for the state Assembly.

Torie Osborn is running for a newly created seat that will include parts of Santa Monica, Malibu, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Those boundaries are expected to be approved by the Citizens Redistricting Commission on Aug. 15. Read more…

The election for newly-drawn state assembly districts may be over a year away, but money is already streaming into candidates’ coffers.

Leading the field in what will likely be the 50th district — which includes Santa Monica — is political activist Torie Osborn with $255,830.40 in her war chest.

She’s raised that total since she announced her candidacy late last year, and over two-thirds of that amount rolled in between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2011.

“My goal was $200,000, so I’ve surpassed my goal,” she said. Read more…

Current officeholder Julia Brownley announces her support for Osborn to succeed her at a campaign kickoff event in Pacific Palisades.

Liberal activist Torie Osborn received the backing of Assemblywoman Julia Brownley on Sunday in her bid to be the next representative of the state Assembly’s 41st District, which includes Malibu. Brownley, the 41st District’s current representative, endorsed Osborn for the 2012 race at a campaign kickoff event in Pacific Palisades.

“It was a very easy choice and a quick conclusion when Torie asked me,” Brownley told the event attendees. Read more…
