April 2nd, 2012

Over 100 Grassroots Activists, Community Leaders and Supporters Joined Torie Osborn for Campaign’s Official Office Opening

SANTA MONICA, CA— With just over two months remaining until the June 5th Primary Election, this past weekend the Torie Osborn for Assembly campaign held its kick-off event for the official opening of its campaign headquarters and formal launch of its field and grassroots outreach campaign.

Since first entering the race, Osborn has built up an extensive network of grassroots activists and supporters who are already enthusiastically engaged and mobilized in their own communities.

The new, open 50th AD runs from the coast to mid-Wilshire and the office location was chosen to be a central hub that helps to coordinate the campaign’s burgeoning volunteers, field workers, phone bankers and grassroots activities.

“The office was bustling Saturday with new energy! People of all ages, from teenagers to seniors, from every corner of California’s new 50thAssembly District, are embracing this citizen-led and people-powered campaign,” said Osborn. “I am delighted to officially open up our campaign headquarters which will serve as a central hub for my campaign’s widespread activist and grassroots network.”

Osborn continued, “This district has a tradition of electing bold, progressive leaders who have led on the big issues — education, healthcare, environment and the economy, as well as justice and human rights. I’m running for Assembly because I believe California is in deep crisis and we need leaders with a sense of urgency and the skills to help forge opportunity from this crisis. It’s time to get back on track to fiscal solvency and head toward a new, green economy for all.”

The office opening was held at the Torie Osborn for Assembly Headquarters, 8235 Santa Monica Blvd, Suite 300 West Hollywood, CA 90046, on Saturday, March 31th, from 12pm to 3pm. Speakers included Torie Osborn and former California State Senator Sheila Kuehl.

Osborn is acclaimed for her pioneering leadership as an executive at several nonprofit organizations, including the Liberty Hill Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center – both of which are located in the new 50th Assembly District – as well as United Way of Greater LA. Osborn also served as a senior policy advisor on homelessness, poverty and economic development to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. She is currently Director of Strategic Relationships for California Calls, a network of 25 organizations throughout the state committed to commonsense governance reform.
