Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa endorsed a former senior adviser today in her bid for the state Assembly.

Torie Osborn is running for a newly created seat that will include parts of Santa Monica, Malibu, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Those boundaries are expected to be approved by the Citizens Redistricting Commission on Aug. 15.

“As a local leader who has worked on some of the most pressing issues of our time, from protecting our environment, to creating jobs, expanding access to better healthcare, helping the homeless, and fighting for equality, Torie Osborn has proven herself to be a champion for those who need a voice,” Villaraigosa said in a statement.

The primary is set for June 2012.

Osborn was a full-time member of the Villaraigosa Administration from January 2006 until February 2008. She currently chairs the mayor’s LGBT advisory group.
