Celebrated Labor Leader Dolores Huerta Calls Torie Osborn “True Champion for Justice;” Says She’s “Proud to Stand in Solidarity with Her”
SANTA MONICA, CA – Torie Osborn won the endorsement today of labor icon Dolores Huerta, fueling her grassroots campaign to win California’s new 50th Assembly seat.
Huerta, a legendary figure in labor and progressive circles, said Osborn was uniquely qualified to help shatter the Sacramento logjam and fight for the common-sense agenda of Californians: educations, jobs, health care, and environmental protection.
“Torie Osborn’s lifetime of working for social justice has taught her how to build successful coalitions that are strong enough to take on the special interests standing in the way of progress,” said Huerta. “She’s got the soul of an organizer and the savvy of an experienced leader. I am proud to stand in solidarity with her, just as she has continually stood in solidarity with working families.”
Dolores Huerta is an internationally recognized feminist, farm worker advocate, human rights activist, and labor leader. She co-founded the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez, and has been active in the labor and progressive movements ever since.
“Dolores Huerta has always been a role model for me,” said Osborn, a longtime leader of community nonprofits. “She’s pioneered countless movements for positive social change, and having her on my team shows the widespread and growing support behind my campaign.”
Recently, the Osborn campaign released an opinion research poll, conducted by Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates, showing Osborn leading the field, and besting her Democratic opponents in head to head match-ups.
Osborn has also recently secured endorsements from the Los Angeles County Young Democrats, the California branch of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Southern California Council.
Additionally, she’s racked up endorsements from every local grassroots Democratic Club that’s endorsed in the race, including: HONOR PAC, the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley (DP/SFV), the Malibu Democratic Club, Santa Monica Democratic Club, Stonewall and Young Stonewall Democratic Clubs, Beverly Hills-West Hollywood Democratic Club, Valley Grassroots Democratic Club, and the Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Osborn also served as a senior policy advisor on homelessness, poverty and economic development to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. She is currently a senior strategist for California Calls, a network of 25 organizations throughout the state committed to commonsense governance reform.
