Homegrown Candidate Continues to Secure Support from Grassroots Clubs with her Message of Change and Reform
SANTA MONICA, CA – Coming on the heels of a poll showing her leading the race for the new 50th AD, Torie Osborn has won the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats (LACYD) – her ninth endorsement from a local Democratic organization in recent weeks.
Osborn, a community nonprofit executive campaigning to change Sacramento, secured the groups’ support Wednesday night. Of 91 eligible votes, Osborn won 51 votes (55%). South Bay Assemblywoman Butler received 38 votes (41%). Santa Monica Mayor Bloom earned 1 vote, while 2 members voted for no endorsement.
“LACYD is proud to endorse Torie Osborn for Assembly,” said Jason Levin, Vice President for Communications for LACYD. “Torie has consistently demonstrated her unique ability to mobilize and energize young people to participate in the political process, a goal we as an organization share with Torie. We are proud to join a vast and growing list of grassroots activists and community leaders in their efforts to elect Torie Osborn to be the next Assemblymember from the 50th district.”
LACYD, founded 40 years ago, is the largest organization in Southern California focused on giving young people a voice and a vehicle for activism in local, state and federal political issues.
“I am truly delighted to have such an important endorsement from the LA County Young Democrats, and I plan on carrying this endorsement with me throughout this campaign as a badge of honor,” said Osborn. “These young Democrats serve as an inspiration for me. They motivate me, and energize me, and I look forward to working side-by-side with them in my campaign and beyond.”
The endorsement came just after the release of a poll, conducted by Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates, showing Osborn leading the field, and besting her Democratic opponents in head to head match-ups. To view the full poll memo, please see the following attachment.
In the past week, Osborn has secured endorsements from the California branch of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Southern California Council.
Additionally, in recent weeks, she’s racked up several consecutive endorsements from local grassroots groups, including: HONOR PAC, the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley (DP/SFV), the Malibu Democratic Club, Santa Monica Democratic Club, Stonewall and Young Stonewall Democratic Clubs, Beverly Hills-West Hollywood Democratic Club, Valley Grassroots Democratic Club, and the Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains.
