Influential Latino/Latina LGBT Advocacy Group Chooses Osborn As Their Candidate
SANTA MONICA, CA – Continuing to gain traction and build support, today activist and veteran non-profit executive Torie Osborn secured a major endorsement from HONOR PAC, the highly regarded and active Latino/Latina LGBT advocacy group.
“Torie Osborn represents the progressive values and idealistic appeal that we seek in a candidate,” said LJ Carusone, HONOR PAC Co-Founder and Executive Board Member. “She’s proven herself to be a fearless fighter for change, such as when she partnered with the PAC to bring Camp Courage to East Los Angeles. That’s why we are proud, and excited, to give her our support and endorsement in her bid for California’s new 50th Assembly seat.”
HONOR PAC advocates for the political empowerment of Latina/o LGBT communities, and supports candidates and ballot propositions that advance progressive policies and serve the unique needs and interests of Latina/o LGBT communities.
“I am very happy to have HONOR PAC as one of my most valued supporters,” said Osborn. “They agree with me that we must send a strong message to Sacramento: Californians are fed up with politics as usual, and it’s time for courageous leadership and fresh thinking to deal with our state’s many crises. If elected to the Assembly, I’ll do everything I can to heal the gaping financial wounds, to stop the senseless and destructive cuts to education, senior services and healthcare, to carry the flag for equality in every area of life and to press for the kind of bold fiscal reforms that can get our state back on track.”
After Proposition 8 passed, Osborn initiated Camp Courage, an Obama-style campaign, coalition and leadership skills training for grassroots activists, particularly young people. The East LA Camp Courage training was co-sponsored by HONOR PAC and Courage Campaign, and turned out to be the largest training in the state with 300 individuals present.
Just last week, Osborn released her fundraising numbers from the December 31st deadline, totaling, $521,122 raised, from 1,639 donors. From those 1,639 donors, Osborn received 2,401 contributions, with 93% giving $500 or less, and 68% $100 or less. Forty percent (40%) of all donations were given online. These statistics firmly establish Osborn as the grassroots candidate, with wide-ranging support.
Recently, Osborn scored endorsements from the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley (DP/SFV), the Malibu Democratic Club and the Progressive Democrats of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Osborn also served as a senior policy advisor on homelessness, poverty and economic development to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. She is currently a senior strategist for California Calls, a network of 25 organizations throughout the state committed to commonsense governance reform.
